Yellow Earth Academy 2019

Yellow Earth Academy is a fully funded intensive course for young British East Asians*(16+). It will give you a taste of life at drama school and the skills you need to become a professional actor in theatre, TV, film and radio.

This year guest directors will be Emily Ling Williams and Quang Kien Van.  

Emily Ling Williams: Directing credits include TURBINES (RWCMD/ Gate Theatre), LUNGS (Extract) (Young Vic). Assistant directing credits include THE MEETING (Chichester Festival Theatre) THE CHALK GARDEN (Chichester Festival Theatre), THE APOLOGY (R&D) (NT Studio), BLACK MOUNTAIN (Paines Plough), OUT OF LOVE (Paines Plough), HOW TO BE A KID (Paines Plough), THE ISLAND NATION (Arcola Theatre).  

Quang Kien Van: Choreographic credits include: Mid-Autumn Dances, Lunar Shadows (QKV Projects); SHAME: a double bill (Bang Bang Bang Group); Lunar Orbits, Lunar Corps (Chinese Arts Space); Tottenham Symphony, Bunny Dance (Royal Court/Beyond the Court). Movement direction: Boots (Bunker Theatre); Forgotten (Yellow Earth/Moongate); Goats, Pah-la (Royal Court Theatre). He has performed with Adventures in Motion Pictures, Cirque du Soleil, Opera North, Michael Clark Company, ENO, Scottish Dance Theatre and The Royal Court Theatre amongst others.

  • Young BEA’s 16+ can apply for either London or Birmingham courses
  • Yellow Earth Academy is a partnership between Yellow Earth Theatre and ALRA and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire
