Yellow Earth Academy 2019 London

This year we celebrated the tenth anniversary of Yellow Earth Academy.

For two weeks in July/August, 16 students came together at the London campus of ALRA for an intensive acting programme including classes in movement, stage combat, voice and acting for camera. Guest directors this year were Choreographer Quang Kien Van and Director Emily Ling Williams.

In addition to the coursework, the students participated in a seminar with Artistic Director Kumiko Mendl and Designer Moi Tran discussing the theatre landscape for BEA artists and a commercial auditions Q&A with Johnny Ong and Alex Chang. The first week was capped off with a trip to see The End of History at the Royal Court.

The second week was busy rehearsing and preparing for the end of programme showcase where they each performed in short scenes and choreographed vignettes.

Then after the showcase, we moved to the Great Hall at ALRA to celebrate the tenth anniversary. This years students and tutors mingled with those from the past ten years to chat, drink and enjoy the open mic. Here’s to another 10 years!

And a huge congratulations to Nadege Nguyen and Duy Steven Nguyen who after the Academy were awarded places to continue their acting studies at ALRA South. In honour of the tenth anniversary of Yellow Earth Academy, Nadege was given free tuition for the One Year Foundation Acting Diploma. While Steven, based on the strength of his performance at the showcase, won a spot in the MA in Professional Acting programme.
