Constellation Creatives Bursary

Congratulations to James Bradwell our new Constellation Creatives Bursary winner 2018 !

James Bradwell from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School is this year’s Constellation Creatives Bursary winner. Now in its sixth year, the bursary aims to encourage and promote greater participation and representation of British East Asian actors on stage and screen. £1000 is awarded to a final year drama school student of East Asian descent who, in the opinion of a judging panel, best demonstrates the talent, skills and commitment to succeed as a professional actor.

The bursary is provided by actor Orion Lee, “I believe in the collaborative nature of our industry and in working together to constantly make it better. I think Yellow Earth is a great organisation, constantly offering opportunities to BEA performers. I’m proud to support it and the future of our industry by providing this bursary.” For a second year, Spotlight has donated a year’s free subscription to the winner.

Kumiko Mendl, Artistic Director of Yellow Earth says “I am delighted that we have been able to award the bursary to James Bradwell from The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School this year. He made an excellent impression with the panel and we are convinced he will be a wonderful ambassador for British East Asian Actors. We eagerly look forward to James’ next steps. Once again we would like to thank Orion Lee for his generosity and Spotlight for supporting this”

James Bradwell commented “I am incredibly grateful to Yellow Earth Theatre for championing this bursary, which will go far to ensure I get the best start as I transition from training into the acting industry. To have some financial burden lightened will allow me to focus more wholly on my personal development as an actor, ensuring for me more integrity in making choices not so heavily dictated by my monetary situation.”

Thanks go to Orion Lee for making this Bursary possible, and to Dr. Valerie Kaneko-Lucas, Programme Director of Theatre and Performance Studies at Regent’s University London for hosting the auditions. Yellow Earth works in partnership with Regent University’s acting programmes.
